The arrival of the blockchain technology, as an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a permanent, verifiable way, introduced the world of decentralization, therefore, challenging our preconceived perspectives of the current social, political, and economic systems, and most notably, the central banking system. As there can be a potentially unlimited number of validators in any given P2P network, consensus algorithms must be utilized for there to be any cooperation between them. The consensus is a problem in distributed computing wherein nodes within the system must reach an agreement given the presence of faulty processes or deceptive nodes. Current consensus protocols, in general, do have several shortcomings regarding performance, ease of use, and service quality. Therefore, in this presentation, we will describe a novel consensus algorithm that uses redundancy reduced gossip and virtual voting protocols based on a distributed computation and algorithms from theoretical computer science which provides a fair and fast, Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus protocol HashNET.

Andrej Šarić, autor
Andrej is a co-founder of Enum Software startup company in Dubrovnik, Croatia which focuses on developing smart city software solutions. For the past four years he worked on multiple smart city projects in which he successfully integrated IoT in our everyday life; projects that he worked on are in the areas of Smart Community, People Flow, Sustainability and Mobility. His main focus is mobile development and he has worked as an iOS developer since Swift came out. Nowadays he is working with Android in Kotlin and web development in Angular. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia where he now works as a lecturer.
Branko Mihaljević, koautor
Branko Mihaljević is educator, consultant, manager, and entrepreneur, dealing with Java since 1996 and with Java EE platform since 2000. After twelve years of teaching at UNIZG's FER, where he received dipl. ing. (MSc), DSM, mr. sc., and dr. sc. (Ph.D.), a few years at Algebra and VERN', as well as seven years as a co-owner and CTO of a development company, he is currently a senior lecturer at RIT Croatia and leading his software consulting company. He gained experience as a consultant, software architect, project manager, development lead, and researcher on various projects in financial, telecom, traffic, public health, and satellite systems sectors. He is the author of numerous scientific and professional papers, conference presentations, and popular Java-related articles. He worked on many research and professional projects, as well as delivered various university courses and professional workshops, and authored many educational materials. He is the president of Croatian Java User Association (HUJAK).
Martin Žagar, koautor
Martin Žagar received EMBA (Cotrugli Business School, 2016), PhD in Computer Science (UNIZG, FER, 2009), University Postgraduate Specialist of Eco-engineering in Forestry (UNIZG, FKIT, 2006), and Diploma in Study of Management (UNIZG, FER, 2005). He is Senior Research Associate in Computing, currently working at RIT Croatia. His interests include multimedia computer architectures and telemedicine. He has participated in several domestic and international scientific projects, and he is Program and/or Technical Chair of several conferences related to e-Health, m-Health, IT Systems, Security, and Smart Cards. He received many awards, including Vera Johanides award in 2012, Roberto Giannini award for 2010/11, silver plaque Josip Lončar for outstanding PhD dissertation and Josip Lončar award for extraordinary student success. He is a member of IEEE, AASCIT, HiPEAC, Croatian Academy of Engineering, and HUJAK.
